This annual Texas Scramble is a fantastic event that can see up to seventy teams playing nineteen holes in one day;
the 19th hold being a complimentary dram in the Club House after.
The Scramble was first organised by Sandy Barclay after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
The Ballater Charitable Chiels and Sandy joined forces and since then the Chiels have been instrumental in raising money in aid of motor neurone disease research and causes local to Ballater. Following Sandy’s death, the Chiels and Sandy’s widow, Lindsay have continued to organise this annual event. In recent years participants have played for the coveted
Sandy Barclay Memorial Jug.
To date the Ballater Texas Scramble has raised over £360,000 with over £160,000 being raised in aid of motor neurone disease research . In addition tens of thousands of pounds has been donated for community projects in and around Ballater. These include The Doctors Surgery, Christmas lights for the town, Ballater OAP’s, Ballater Mother and Toddlers Group,
The Children’s Playground, The Brownies and many more.
We are extremely grateful to Ballater Golf Club for their continued and generous support of this annual fundraising event. The Club is set in the heart of the Royal Deeside forty miles west of Aberdeen and offers a warm welcome,
breath taking scenery and a beautiful yet challenging golf course.
The Ballater Charitable Chiels are looking for teams of four to compete in the next Texas Scramble which is being held on Friday 15th June 2018.
Team entry costs £200 and includes a delicious hot buffet lunch. A silent auction will be held throughout the day with the grand raffle being drawn in the evening. If you are interested in entering a team, please contact:
